After learning about the positive actions for self-improvement, pre-kindergartners are now setting goals to improve the different areas of their lives. In this lesson, they start with physical self-improvement.
To do this, pre-kindergartners need to remember the physical positive actions they can take to improve their bodies. Using an inviting conversation between their beloved characters, StarBoy and StarGirl, the students recall the physical positive actions they learned from Unit 2. After that, they participate in a class discussion, using the "Positive Actions for My Body" poster as a visual aid to keep the conversation focused.
"Complete with visual aids, songs, and interactive activities, this SEL lesson reinforces and assists students in improving their physical health and bodies with positive actions."
As a goal-setting activity, the students are encouraged to check their progress in practicing physical positive actions. Papers and crayons are distributed, so they can draw goals they want to achieve for each positive action. While they draw, they also listen to the Positive Action song "Take Care of You." Overall, the activity aims to develop self-awareness and help pre-kindergartners reflect on how they can achieve physical self-improvement.
To conclude the lesson, the students’ positive actions are acknowledged by reading the ICU messages from the ICU box. This reminds pre-kindergartners how far they have come since beginning the Positive Action curriculum. It shows them that they are improving and, as a result, motivates them to continue on the same positive path.
